June 20, 2022 — Urban Freight Lab researchers Dr. Anne Goodchild, Dr. Giacomo Dalla Chiara, Nota Goulianou, and Şeyma Güneş have published Understanding and Mitigating Freight-Related Impacts from the West Seattle Bridge Closure, a report on a study of the closure of the West Seattle High Bridge during 2020-2022.

June 7, 2022 — The Master of Supply Chain Transportation & Logistics program (MSCTL) has named incoming student Aron Cho as recipient of the $10,000 2022 SCTL Scholarship, selected from this year's pool of applicants for admission. Aron was born and raised in South Korea and left home at age 17 to study English, first in the Philippines and then in Montana.

May 31, 2022 — Urban Freight Lab researchers Anne Goodchild, Ed McCormack, and Andisheh Ranjbari, and Kevin Chang (University of Idaho) have released the Managing Increasing Demand for Curb Space in the City of the Future final report, providing recommendations for innovative curb design solutions that ensure that our streets operate efficiently, safely, and reliable for people and goods in the city of the future.

May 3, 2022 — Urban Freight Lab Research Assistant and Student Research Group Manager Fiete Krutein (Ph.D., Industrial & Systems Engineering '22) defended his dissertation today, completing his graduate studies and earning a doctorate degree. Krutein now joins trucking software company Convoy as a Scientist.

April 25, 2022 — The Urban Freight Lab announces the publication of a new study exploring the pathways to future implementation of "Green Loading Zones" (GLZs) in New York City. Green Loading Zones are curb spaces designated for zero- and low-emissions vehicles including electric trucks, electric vans and cargo bikes.

APRIL 20, 2022 — The Urban Freight Lab today announced the addition of W/:RP to its public-academic-private research consortium. Headquartered in Los Angeles, W/:RP focuses on digitizing the old school trucking model to create the most efficient routes for middle-mile freight. W/:RP emerged from stealth mode earlier this year in February, raising $2.4 million in a seed round with ambitious sustainability goals like working to electrify the middle-mile.

APRIL 15, 2022 — The Supply Chain Transportation & Logistics Center has undertaken a new pro bono project helping Cascade Bicycle Club analyze the transportation and logistics of the Pedaling Relief Project (PRP) and make recommendations for operations improvements. Seattle is one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities, presenting both opportunities and challenges for food waste.

April 14, 2022 — Urban Freight Lab researchers Thomas Maxner, Giacomo Dalla Chiara, and Anne Goodchild have published a new paper, "Identifying the Challenges to Sustainable Urban Last-Mile Deliveries: Perspectives from Public and Private Stakeholders", in Sustainability.

March 31, 2022 — The Urban Freight Lab and the School of Civil and Construction Engineering (Oregon State University) are seeking Corvallis-area commercial vehicle drivers for a one-hour driving simulation to understand travel behaviors and parking decision-making process. Participants will be paid $40. The study will help inform street design and curb management policies to accommodate safe and efficient operations in a shared urban roadway environment.

March 14, 2022 — The Urban Freight Lab announces the publication of a new Mapping the Challenges to Sustainable Urban Freight report, detailing the most significant challenges facing cities and companies to reducing carbon emissions in the last mile of goods delivery. With funding from Amazon, the project analyzed the 58 largest, densest, fastest-growing cities in the U.S. and the cities of Montréal and Vancouver in Canada.
