In 2014 Amazon.com started Prime Now. It promised delivery for a selection of items in just one hour. By 2016, a quarter of Prime members had used it.

Many of us have become accustomed to Amazon’s fast delivery since then — the two-day, the two-hour or the one-hour kind.
